Manvesh Singh Sidhu, Secretary, Labour visits grain markets in Fazilka to review wheat procurement process
Fazilka May 2, 2024: Manvesh Singh Sidhu, Secretary Labour Department, who is also the in-charge of Fazilka district visited today and reviewed the wheat procurement arrangements. He visited Fazilka and Abohar markets where he interacted with the farmers, artiyas and labourers, while he held a meeting with the procurement agencies at the district administration complex and took stock of the procurement process. Earlier, on reaching here, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Senu Duggal, welcomed him.
On this occasion, Manvesh Singh Sidhu said that the wheat procurement process is continuing rapidly and till now 80 percent of wheat has arrived in the markets compared to this year's target. He exhorted the procuring agencies to speed up the work of lifting from the mandis and especially to give special attention to those mandis where the lifting is less than the average.
He said that till now 6,47,319 metric tons of wheat has arrived in the district markets and out of this 6,27,538 metric tons of wheat has been purchased by various agencies. He said that 1200 crore rupees should have been paid to the farmers in exchange for the wheat purchased in the district till last 48 hours, but till last evening, 1300.06 crore rupees has been paid to the farmers in Fazilka district.
Sidhu said that the farmers coming to sell crops in the market should not face any problem and all the necessary arrangements should be made. He asked the procurement agencies to lift wheat from the market quickly so that there is no shortage of space in the markets to bring more wheat. He said that if a contractor does not provide labor or trucks as per the terms of the tender, strict action will be taken against him as per the rules.
ADC(G), Rakesh Kumar Popli, District Food Supply Controller Himanshu Kukkar, District Manager of Pansap Raman Goyal, District Manager of Markfed Vipan Kumar, District Mandi Officer Jasmeet Singh were also present on this occasion.
